An accident has killed one teenager and sent two other young men to the hospital.
Mercer County Sheriff's deputies tell 27 NEWSFIRST that a car driven by Eric Devine, 19, ran off Bohon Road, near Jim Forsythe Road, just before 9 p.m. Monday.
It hit a guardrail and overturned in a ravine.
Devine was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the car, Dakota "Cody" Sallee, 17, and Dustin Curtsinger, 20, went to UK Hospital.
As of late Tuesday morning, Sallee was listed in serious condition at UK. We're told he is a junior at Mercer County High School.
Curtsinger was discharged from the hospital Tuesday morning.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash, but they think speed played a big role.
Devine is a graduate of Mercer County High School.
We're told students at the school were told of the crash Tuesday morning. A moment of silence was held there. The school also has additional counselors on hand to help students.
Almeda Devine, Eric's grandmother, says the wreck should send a message about speed.
"Well I'm just hoping that all these young kids driving fast will think about what they're doing and slow down. All I can say..not wind up like these did," she said.
