Folks we talked to earlier say unfortunately this scene behind us right now isn't uncommon on this particular stretch of road.

"It's a very bad spot though, I don't know what they could do to improve this intersection, but they really ought to look into doing something," said Richard Tate.

Police tell us a family of five in a passenger car were traveling toward Harrodsburg on highway 68 and had the green light at the intersection with the 127 bypass, according to witnesses.
That's when they say a woman driving the SUV ran the red light and slammed into the drivers side of the passenger car.

"I heard all the helicopters flying in and everything and of course when you hear the helicopters in Harrodsburg, you know something bad has happened," said Tate.

The two adults and a six month old child in the car, along with the woman driving the SUV were airlifted out. The other two children in the car, who police say were around three and four years old, were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

"What I seen, the baby bottle, the kids. That's really concerning more than the grown-ups," said on-looker David Whittle.

Whittle says something should be done about people speeding through that intersection.

"I noticed there was another cross sitting over here. That should tell people something right there," said Whittle.

"I have two grandchildren probably their age and I don't know how I could handle it, I really don't," added Tate.

"It must have been a bad one and that's when I come down to the scene. I see what's behind me here and it's not good, I just hope and pray they're ok."

As police clean up the scene, they say they will be back out again Friday morning with an accident reconstruction team to figure out exactly what happened.

At last check, all involved were still in critical condition at UK Hospital.
Police have not released any names.
