Man pleads guilty to murders

Posted: Thu 2:20 PM, Jun 03, 2010

Police say he had already confessed to the crimes and on Wednesday, a man told a judge he is a serial killer.

Michael Abner entered a guilty plea to three murder charges Wednesday morning in Pulaski County.

It was a quick hearing in the courtroom as Michael Abner pleaded guilty to three counts of murder while family members of his victims watched on.

Michael Abner stood before his family and the victims’ friends and family.

Abner was arrested in January for the murder of his neighbor, 79-year old Jack Roerink.

He then confesses to the murder of Mae Steinger in 1988 and to the murder of Maime Mercer in 1983.

By pleading guilty to all three murders he was sentenced to life without parole, something family and friends of the victims were relieved to hear.

Along with the murder charges, Abner also pleaded guilty to robbery, burglary, and arson.

As for Abner he will now begin serving his life sentence without parole while family members of his victims say today they will try to move on.

A judge sentenced Abner to 20-years each on the other charges against him, but that sentence will run concurrently with his life without parole sentence.
