Disaster aid for storm victims in West Virginia

BEAVER, W.Va. (AP) - More than $3.7 million in federal disaster aid has been approved for victims of severe storms that hit parts of West Virginia in March.

Most of the assistance is housing-related. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says $3 million has been approved for temporary housing and home repairs.

The aid also includes $449,200 in low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

President Barack Obama approved a disaster declaration for Greenbrier, Raleigh, Fayette, Kanawha and Mercer counties after severe storms starting March 12 caused flooding and mudslides.

May 28 is the deadline to apply for assistance. Applications can be submitted online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.
