MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Some residents around the Chimney Rock area near Herrington Lake say it's a tight knit community. And that once the bulletin went out about the thefts and break-ins, everyone started looking out for each other.
For about a week and a half, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office has been investigating a series of burglaries around the county.
"We recovered property that's been identified by the victims from three different burglaries. One in Herrington Woods, one in north Mercer County, Savisa area, and one in Boyle County," said Mercer County Sheriff Ernie Kelty.
Police say that recovered property was at Jason Myers' home.
"It wasn't any stolen property. Cause I know I wasn't there cause I worked for the last two weeks straight," said Jason Myers in an interview from the Boyle County Detention Center.
Myers said he has several alibis, that would clear him from being at any of the burglary scenes, including co-workers.
But police have also linked him to a violent home invasion.
"The burglary on Ashley Camp Road, the victim actually came home, heard something inside his house. And at that time confronted the burglar where there was an altercation involving a weapon," said Sheriff Kelty.
"I received a citation saying I was in a gun, battle with a home owner or something like that. And I just request for them to finger print that gun," Myers said.
We've since learned from investigators that Myers, since being arrested on a burglary charge, is actually facing additional charges. Police say there are two felony charges, for receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as possession of marijuana.
Myers tells us police arrested him while he was attending his son's seventh birthday party.
Investigators from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office will present their findings from all of the cases in Boyle County court in the coming days.
