A quest for authentic Mexican food could take you to La Fonda’s in Harrodsburg, and while there…Jose Navarro Mesa may have waited on you.
“How cool he was with us! A good guy. He was an amazing guy,” said Rafael Ayala, who worked with Mesa at the downtown Harrodsburg eatery.
The 26 year old was killed…his wife and three young children are still on the mend after their car was involved in a violent Thanskgiving day crash.
“The 6 month old and the other one, they are stable. Pretty good. The 4 year old, she is in critical condition. But (all) should be able to make it,” Ayala said.
Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the cause but they do tell us that something caused the driver of the other car to run a red light and crash into the car that the 5 were in.
Police say they will seek phone records, as that driver did tell them she was using a cell phone.
Ayala says he had just played a game of soccer with Mesa moments before the crash.
“They went to his friends to take a dinner, when they were coming back when it happened,” he said.
He says he and other restaurant workers will help take care of his friend’s wife and kids now.
“I hope, you know….he’s in a better place. We miss him,” he said.
Ayala says they’re hoping to finalize funeral services in the coming days, right now they’re being handled by Alexander and Royalty funeral home in Harrodsburg.
