A Kentucky country music superstar and his wife are divorcing.
CMT.com reports Eddie Montgomery was served divorce papers Tuesday from his wife of 20 years, Tracy.
Since the announcement, both sides have been sounding off.
From a playground built at a local school, to the opening of his Harrodsburg steakhouse, even to his recent announcement of a battle with prostate cancer, Eddie Montgomery is never far from the spotlight.
This latest announcement has Montgomery garnering a different type of attention.
CMT.com reports Eddie Montgomery speculated on Twitter the divorce stems from his wife Tracy's inability to cope with the singer's recent diagnosis of prostate cancer.
We checked overnight and found those tweets were no longer on Montgomery's Twitter page.
By this morning, Tracy Montgomery was already firing back to defend herself.
In her statement, Tracy Montgomery says, "There are two sides to every story. Despite what is being said, Eddie's cancer had absolutely nothing to do with my decision. It's what the public doesn't know that finalized an extremely difficult decision that I was forced to make. I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this most traumatic time in our lives. For the sake of my children, I prefer to handle things from here on out in a private manner. God bless, Tracy Montgomery."
Just last month, Eddie Montgomery revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis and he plans to undergo surgery later this month.
Eddie Montgomery is half of the duo Montgomery Gentry, who parted ways with their longtime music label Sony Music Nashville in September.
The Montgomerys have a home in Boyle County. They have four children and one grandchild.
