A judge sentenced a former D.A.R.E. officer who admitted to having a relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Last year, a Mercer County grand jury indicted 31-year old Jason Elder on more than 140 counts of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse.
Elder pleaded guilty to those charges in January.
He was sentenced in a Bourbon County courtroom on Thursday afternoon. Elder must serve three years in jail without the possibility of probation. He will also have to register as a sex offender for life.
"I think he is glad this is behind him," explains Elder's lawyer, Elmer George, "of course he has remorse but he is moving forward. He will serve his time and when he gets out of jail he will be the upstanding citizen that he is, I have no doubt about that."
When released Elder is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
