HARRODSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky man charged with stabbing and shooting another man to death and attacking his wife has entered an Alford plea.

The Advocate-Messenger reports James Michael Kelley of Lexington entered the plea in Mercer Circuit Court on Tuesday and received a life sentence. An Alford plea means that Kelley maintains his innocence, but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him.

Kelley is accused of killing Bud Dacci and injuring his wife, Maryann Dacci, in 2010. Maryann Dacci survived being shot and called police.

As police search for Kelley, he shot himself in the head outside a hospital in Richmond. He survived and was declared competent last year to stand trial.

Kelley and Dacci were former partners in a heating and air conditioning business in Lexington.
