Mozzarella Stretching At The Farmer’s Market

Boone Creek Creamery will be demonstrating mozzarella stretching at the downtown Lexington Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 3rd. The event, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. will include traditional stretching as well as Armenian Rope, Cheese Sticks and Braided Knot techniques. Kids of all ages are invited to join in the fun including an informal distance stretching competition.

Boone Creek Creamery is Kentucky’s premiere artisan cheese maker. You won’t see hydraulic presses or fancy modern equipment in their micro‐creamery. Instead, they make their cheeses by hand using traditional European techniques to protect the delicate curds. This is very time consuming, but it creates better cheeses with rich complex flavors.

Their cheese is made from all natural JD Country Milk, a family owned Mennonite dairy farm in Logan County. The cows are pasture grazed and never given any antibiotics or hormones. Instead they are fed a vitamin enriched diet and all the grass they can eat. The milk is not homogenized and is pasteurized at just 145 degrees, then quickly cooled to preserve the natural flavor and enzymes that Mother Nature intended. They say the milk tastes better because the cows are happy.
Boone Creek Creamery also offers cheese making classes and supplies.
