JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Family members say they are living in a nightmare. A dispatcher with the Kentucky State Police confirms 34-year-old Christina Barnett of the Sitka Community in Johnson County is missing.
Family members say Christina Barnett has been the "heartbeat" of their family since Barnett's father died in 2009. Her mother, Donna Hale, is suffering from complications from a total hip replacement, so Barnett has been taking care of her.
"My bedroom is upstairs. She would help me down every morning and bring all my stuff. My chair, everything. Every night, she'd help me take everything back up. She did everything," Donna Hale said.
Which they say reflects Christina Barnett's character.
"She's very generous. She is very sweet. She is a people person," said Michelle Hale, who is Christina Barnett's sister.
But family members say on Wednesday night, Barnett was supposed to be back home six hours after telling them she was going to London with a man. But that was the last time they saw her.
Family members say they knew something was wrong the next day when Barnett was not home and had not called anyone to let them know where she was.
"She is attached at the hip to her phone and Facebook. And there's been no activity since Wednesday evening," Donna Hale said.
Donna Hale says police told her that her daughter was last seen at a gas station in Hazard on Wednesday evening. Now family members are asking folks in that area for help. They have already been posting flyers throughout the Hazard area.
"I want people to look at her picture. If you've seen her, call the Kentucky State Police or me. Call me. And to the people of Hazard, she was last seen in your community. Please, you know the area. Please, let's search," said Donna Hale.
And restore the heartbeat to a close-knit family.
Family members say Barnett was last seen wearing a pink dress and cowboy boots. She is 5'6" and weighs 130 lbs. with hazel eyes and blonde hair.
Kentucky State Police were unavailable to comment on Sunday.
