JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Johnson County Social Services and Paintsville Elementary teamed up to turn downtown Paintsville blue.

Students walked in a parade carrying balloons and pinwheels. The light blue balloons represented the 130 substantiated neglect cases reported in Johnson County last year. The silver balloons represented 6 sexual abuse and 10 physical abuse cases.

officials say it is important to educate and make children aware of abuse.
Beth Claxon, with the Department of Community Based Services says, "Educate children so they can advocate for themselves and for peers. If they are being abused or know a student that is, they can go to the appropriate adult, teacher, principal, social worker, or law enforcement officer."

April is Child Abuse Prevention month.
