A mother has been arrested after police say her 3-year-old daughter wandered away from home.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office charged 20-year-old Lillian Jordan with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Investigators say just before 11 a.m. Sunday, someone found the child walking alone on Rooks Branch Road.

After a concentrated effort to find someone who knew the child, investigators say they were able to track down Jordan.

They say the child wandered off while Jordan was asleep.

Investigators also say Jordan did not make any 911 calls in an effort to find the child.

Three-year old Kaylee is now in the care of her grandmother, Buffy Hicks. Hicks spoke with WKYT about her daughter's arrest.

"As for what happened yesterday, I think it could have happened to anybody. She has got out once before. We put chains on the doors. We try to manage to keep her in. But now we have 4 latches on the door," said Buffy Hicks.
