LAUREL Co., Ky. (WYMT) - Officials with the U.S. House Committee on Transportation say
more than 40 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles this July 4th holiday.
Almost everybody wants to know, where can I get the cheapest gas?
Richard Montel is from North Carolina. He is making the trip to Indiana.
He stopped at the Shell gas station off I-75 in Laurel County.
"I was using Fuel Buddy last night to plan the trip. I stopped here specifically because this was the cheapest gas on the route," said Montel.
With his trailer in tow, Montel is hoping to gas up and save some cash.
Gas prices did not affect Marie Peine. She drives a hybrid.
"We made these plans when gas prices were quite a bit higher, but it's for family purposes," said Peine. "We don't do a lot of traveling. So it wasn't a factor."
Carl Abner drove his diesel pickup truck from Cincinnati. He says he noticed something.
"When you get further down in Kentucky they get cheaper," said Abner.
Almost everyone says they are checking these prices before they pump.
State police officers say they are patrolling I-75 heavily to keep drivers safe.
