Inner tube accident highlights need for life vests

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Two 12-year-old girls are recovering at UK Hospital and Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.

We know one possibly has a broken leg from the call made to 911.

A quiet Sunday afternoon near Holly Bay Marina in Laurel County turned frantic when the girls were hurt in the tubing accident.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife says inner tubes pulled by a jet ski collided, resulting in the injuries.

In an excerpt from the 911 call, the importance of wearing a life vest while out on the water is highlighted.

"Caller: Two females are injured and possibly a broken leg. Dispatcher: Where are they at exactly, on the water? Caller: Yes. We were gonna put them on the boat, but we can't get them out."

According to Fish and Wildlife, the girls were wearing their life vests.

We don't know the identity of the people involved. But, we do know they're not from Laurel County.
