LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) House Republicans will unveil a new bill for preventing a government shutdown on Tuesday that would also delay implementing the rest of President Barack Obama’s health care law for one year.
Republicans say the new bill also would repeal a new tax on medical devices in the Affordable Care Act.
Republicans also will try to pass a bill that would get paychecks to members of the military on time if a shutdown occurs.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made a quick stop in Kentucky Saturday at the Chicken Festival as the grand marshal of the parade.
He says coming to an agreement in Washington is going to be tough.
“We haven’t gotten the job down yet because the math doesn’t work for us. There are too many Democrats in the Senate and not enough Republicans. But we’re going to keep trying,” McConnell said.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate will not pass any bill keeping the government open past Monday that would change the health care law.
