LAUREL Co., Ky. (WYMT) - When President Obama announced the Promise Zone Initiative in January Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation's, President and CEO, Jerry Rickett was sitting in the front row.
Rickett said the Promise Zone program is a great example of 12 partners working together.
Now he and many others are pulling their resources together to benefit counties across our region.
"If everybody does a little bit, implements a small part of the promise, then we have a lot of promise for the region," said Rickett.
The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded funding to implement the plan.
Rickett said this will help with job creation, educational improvement and worker retraining.
The $250,000 grant will allow KHIC to begin the program in Bell, Clay, Harlan, Knox, Leslie, Perry and Whitley Counties.
Rickett said this will make a significant impact on the challenges facing our region.
