CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - A robbery left workers at the Corbin Taco Bell locked in a freezer.
It happened around 8p.m. Sunday, October 28th.
Owner of the Carpet Store next door, Kenny Peace, never leaves his store unguarded.
After hearing that the Taco Bell was robbed, he said he's going to be even more cautious.
“It kind of makes you think twice when somebody comes in, especially somebody that looks kind of crazy,” said Peace.
After the robber took money from the registers, police say the man then forced four workers into the freezer and locked the door.
The workers didn't have to stay there very long, because an officer with state police was patrolling the area nearby, and got there within a matter of minutes of the robbery.
Police said it was an uncommon find for the officer.
“This is pretty unusual. Usually they'll armed rob a place then flee on foot; so it’s pretty unusual for somebody to be locked especially in a freezer that could be hazardous to someone's health,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Peace said that he plans to not only protect his store but himself as well.
“We got our own protection here too. I don't go anywhere without a gun, never have, so it kind of makes you think, well I might be doing the right thing,” said Peace.
Police believe the robber acted alone, and have made no arrests yet.
