LAUREL Co., Ky. (WYMT) - 'Tis the season for giving. With so many kids in need Kentucky State Police troopers said they are just trying to give back.
At State Police Post 11 troopers said their annual 'Shop with a Cop' program is just one way they hope to brighten Christmas for children.
Janet Poore's son is one of dozens who participated in the program at Walmart on Monday evening.
"Blessed, very blessed because I couldn't afford to buy him what he got tonight," said Poore.
Trooper Scottie Pennington said this is his 11th year participating.
"Some kids that we brought today, their house burned down last week," said Pennington. "We got the opportunity to take them shopping."
He said seeing the kids smile is what it is all about.
"What an awesome experience just to get to spend some time with them and get them to see a side of law enforcement they usually don't get to see," Pennington said.
Troopers said this program is the reason for the season.
"It's not all about taking people to jail and writing tickets," Pennington said. "It's about giving back and this is our opportunity to give back to these young kids."
Troopers said this is one holiday tradition that keeps on giving.
