EAST BERNSTADT, Ky. (WYMT) - Two people in Laurel County got themselves into some trouble over the weekend after calling 911 about a possible burglary at their house.

Deputies say there was no intruder and the two that placed the call were high on meth.

Sheriff's deputies received a call Saturday night that a break-in was in progress at a home on Four Oak Road in the East Bernstadt community of Laurel County.

"When they get there, the homeowners are outside of the residence and they say 'Oh yeah, there's somebody inside the house right now. We've seen the lights flickering on and off,'" said Gilbert Acciardo with the sheriff's department.

No items were missing and no one was found inside the house, but deputies say the two that had placed the call admitted they had been smoking meth.

38-year-old Anthony Vaughn and 40-year-old Lukeshia Collet-Sowder were both arrested and charged with Public Intoxication of a Controlled Substance. Vaughn was also charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident.

Falsely Reporting an Incident is only a misdemeanor charge. Still, sheriff's deputies say phony 911 calls use up department resources and put the public at risk.

"The dangers of them running with lights and siren to the scene, plus the fact that their resources were being used there when they could have been used elsewhere," Acciardo said.

Both Vaughn and Collett-Sowder were taken to the Laurel County Detention Center and have since been released.
