LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - A southern Kentucky jail has received a high-tech upgrade that jail leader say will make the facility safer.
The Laurel County Detention Center now has a video visitation system for inmates to use. Jail workers can bring video monitors to an inmate's cell instead of bringing an inmate to a visitation area.
They say this keeps guards from having to move inmates around, and frees up more time for inmates to talk to family and friends.
"A support system and developing resources through family can be very beneficial in recovery as far as a drug addiction or whatever the issue may have been," says Laurel County Jailer, Jamie Mosley.
They say inmates can now talk to visitors for up to two and a half hours with the new system.
