LETCHER Co., Ky. (WYMT) - Local business owners in Letcher County say their "Downtown Summersburg" block party is just a taste of everything Whitesburg has to offer.
The owners of one bakery are hoping live music, food and other family friendly games bring new faces to their community.
Local business owners are taking over Main St. in downtown Whitesburg thanks to two women who own Here Comes the Bun bakery and deli.
"In Eastern Kentucky there's not too many other places kinda like what we have or do. We're able to get a wider area and more people into Whitesburg that don't necessarily live in town," said co-owner Becca Jane Peterson.
Since opening they have noticed the enthusiasm patrons share for locally owned eateries and shops.
"Even though one small business might not provide a lot for the community, a lot of small businesses together can do a whole lot," said co-owner Carrie Wells.
In hopes of spreading this appetite, encouraging other entrepreneurs and attracting new faces they had an idea and community leaders listened.
The event is called "Downtown Summersburg."
On Saturday business owners will set up their tables for some family fun.
These bakery owners say their Summersburg block party is only a taste of what Whitesburg has to offer.
They hope to have a similar event this winter.
