BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Thousands of people are planning to participate in the "Hands of Coal Across Bell County" event on Saturday.
At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, participants are planning to stand hand in hand on the southbound side of Highway 25E from the Bell-Knox County line to the Cumberland Gap Tunnel.
At 2:30, there will be a prayer session.
Organizers say people are coming from all over Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Organizers estimate 20,000 people are needed to stand hand in hand for 17 miles.
"We're here for coal, coal miners, coal communities and to support them, but also it's going to be very exciting to have 17 plus miles of prayer across our county," said Joe Harris.
Several other Eastern Kentucky counties are holding coal appreciation events on Saturday as well.
