ROXANA, Ky. (WYMT) - Police found several items that were reported stolen and arrested two people in Letcher County Sunday night.
Police suspect both to be involved in the recent rash of thefts and burglaries.
A majority of the break-ins have happened in the community of Roxana.
Almost anyone in Roxana said they have been affected by the rash of burglaries.
“Everybody around here has been a near miss or has gotten hit one,” said Matt Gilley of Roxana.
For example, Kevin Ison had a power box stolen from his business.
“They came in and cut the power while it was hot, and now we have no lights or anything,” said Ison.
Burglars were also caught in the act at Matt Gilley's home.
“The neighbors caught them outside the back of the house, and my wife and three kids were the only ones home. So they called State Police and the neighbors ran them off,” said Gilley.
However, arrests have been made.
Police said Alvin Slone and Ronica Neace were people of interest in burglary cases throughout the area; they were arrested Sunday.
Another woman, Nora Hatton, was also recently arrested for allegedly stealing from a Whitesburg business, but police believed she could also be involved in other crimes.
Police advise you to report anything you may have recently had stolen.
“We've had a rash of thefts in all parts of the county, and what we're asking people to do is report your crime. A lot of people don't report it,” said Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb.
They also urged anyone to keep the serial numbers of your belongings and participate in a neighborhood watch, like those in Roxana.
