WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Two big festivals are underway, including one in Letcher County.
The 30th annual Mountain Heritage Festival kicked off Thursday morning in Whitesburg.
People come from across the region to sample the down home atmosphere that takes over the city for one weekend in September.
Organizers say that many of the same faces return every year.
"Yesterday I had a young lady came to the booth and she and I had went to high school together. She came last year. She lives in Michigan, outside of Detroit. She made it a family affair." Connie Fields of the Mountain Heritage Committee told Mountain News.
The festival runs through Saturday.
The World Chicken Festival is also underway in London and the Sorghum Festival begins Friday in West Liberty.
It is the first one since the March 2nd tornado.
