LETCHER CO., (WYMT) - Two people in Letcher County have been indicted on charges connected to a military grave marker theft case.
Harley Jack Daniels Slone is charged with 12 counts of violating graves and 12 counts of receiving stolen property.
He was previously arrested in connection with the case.
81-year-old Delbert Mitchell Wright was also indicted.
Police say he owns Wright's Scrap Metal in Isom.
Police say they received an anonymous call that someone had seen the grave markers there.
He has been indicted on charges of failure to maintain register of metals, improper purchase of restricted metals by cash, failure to provide requested reports of daily activity to law enforcement, and purchase of restricted metals without proof of ownership.
"Hopefully with the new laws, this is going to cut down on the metal thefts across the county. It's going to hold the buyers of the metal accountable," said Eugene Slone with the Letcher County Sheriff's Department.
Delbert Mitchell Wright did not want to comment.
Nine of the twelve stolen grave markers have been returned to family members.
The sheriff's department is working with the veterans administration to replace them for free.
Police believe more people were involved with the thefts.
