The Lexington Fire Department has a new piece of equipment, one officials say will help save lives.
The new equipment was bought with a grant from Fireman's Fund Insurance. The new device is an all terrain carrier that can be used to transport people out of areas where an ambulance couldn't go. The carrier can support 1,000 lbs. and is towed behind an all terrain vehicle.
In the past, officials say emergency crews would have to carry victims out of remote areas. Officials say the new equipment will allow rescuers to save time and possibly lives.
In addition to rural areas, the all terrain carrier will be used in urban areas to help navigate crowds. Officials say one of the first crowds they are going to be dealing with will be the thousands of people at the World Equestrian Games.
