William North has joined the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department as the executive director of Primary Care. North will oversee a center with 117 staff members (including eight physicians, five nurse practitioners, five dentists, four pharmacists, three licensed clinical social workers and one physician’s assistant) that in 2009 provided service to 17,452 patients with 70,674 visits.
“This is an exciting challenge for me to join Lexington-Fayette County’s healthcare community, particularly as the entire nation moves toward health care reform,” North said. “The health department’s Primary Care Center provides valuable medical and dental services for thousands of people in this community, and I look forward to being part of expanding those services.”
North has a BS in business administration from the University of Southern Colorado and an MBA from the University of Colorado. He has an extensive background in health care, including serving as president and CEO of Community Health System, which had a staff of 300 people and 35,000 patients.
North replaces Dr. Rice Leach, who retired in April after five years with the health department.
