An investigation is underway after police say an elderly woman was attacked and robbed.
It happened late Monday night at the woman's Montavesta Road home, which is just off Tates Creek Road.
Lexington Police say the robber even left the house in the car belonging to the woman.
The woman, who is 82 years old, tells police the man broke into her home through the front door.
People living along Montavesta Road in Lexington say it is hard to believe what their neighbor went through.
"This is such a safe neighborhood. I would never dream that something would happen here. I've always felt very very safe here," says next door neighbor Dee Powers.
Neighbors say it's an area where people spend time outside, and don't think twice about it.
"I run around this neighborhood almost every day, so that is kind of a freaky thing to happen, definitely to an older woman who's vulnerable," says Lyndsey Skanchy, a neighbor.
Police say after breaking through the front door of the woman's home, the suspect assaulted her and demanded money.
"It's too horrible to imagine. I don't know how someone could do something like that -- they had to be in a pretty desperate situation of they think that is okay," Skanchy says.
Police say the robber then demanded her keys, and stole her car.
Her next door neighbor says she fears for the victim, but is glad the situation was not any worse.
"Very sad that someone would do something like that to her, I'm just thankful that she's alive, really," says Powers.
The woman did suffer minor injuries, but neighbors and friends say she is a strong lady, and she is doing okay as of Tuesday afternoon.
The stolen car is a white 2008 4-door Subaru, with Kentucky license plate 948-LCZ.
