Two hurt, drugs suspected in crash

An injury crash on a busy Lexington road tied up traffic Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Newtown Pike, near Citation Boulevard.

The crash involved a car and a semi. Police think the car pulled out in front of the semi, causing the crash.

Police had to use the jaws of life to get two of the people inside the car out. They were taken to UK Hospital.

Police identified the driver of the car as 26-year-old Joseph Barnes, and the passenger as 25-year-old Ashley Janov. Both are from Lancaster.

As of Thursday morning, Barnes was in fair condition, and Janov was in serious condition, at UK Hospital.

Lexington Police say they're looking into the possibility that drugs played a role in the crash.
