With 15 days left until the World Equestrian Games and crews still furiously working towards completion, Friday the mayor and other city officials took time out to tout Lexington's downtown face-lift.
The Main Street street scape includes widened sidewalks with recycled pavers, unique floating bike lanes, curbside rain gardens and street resurfacing. Mayor Newberry says there will be some corrections to do, and ongoing work in the downtown area, but he says this portion of Main Street will be ready to go for the WEG and complete within the next couple of days.
The games were the catalyst for the street improvements, but Mayor Newberry says these projects were all long overdue. Total cost for the Main and Vine Street improvements is close to $10 million.
