LEXINGTON, KY – Every journey begins with a first step and, in this year, thousands of concerned citizens across the nation will walk together to raise money and awareness for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). NAMI Lexington will host this year’s fundraiser, NAMIWalks, at Masterson Station Park on Saturday, October 16. Registration will be at 12 noon. NAMIWalks will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The event is a 5k (just over 3 miles). Participants can also opt for shorter distances.
In addition to the walk, this year’s event will feature lots of fun activities for children and adults, as well as information about NAMI and the need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness.
The presenting sponsors for this year’s walk are Bluegrass Regional Mental Health Mental Retardation Board, Inc. and UK Healthcare. All proceeds from the event benefit NAMI.
“We encourage everyone – statewide – to make plans, sign up, register your team, invite family and friends to make this our biggest and best walk,” Phil Gunning, NAMI Lexington Executive Director, said. “The funds raised by this walk are returned back to the community to fight stigma, raise awareness and support NAMI programs that are available free in our community. Help us help others now!”
