They're expecting a big crowd and a big traffic impact.
On Tuesday morning, Lexington city leaders announced how the Spotlight Lexington festival, which will be downtown during the World Equestrian Games, will impact drivers.
The 17 day festival begins September 24.
Stages, vendors, and lots of visitors will fill downtown.
In order to accommodate the crowd, certain streets will be closed.
Extended closings will affect Barr Street between Limestone and the Courthouse Garage, Short Street between Limestone and M.L.K., and Limestone between Vine and Main.
Intermittent closings will also affect varying sections of Main Street.
While the closures and traffic changes are more work for engineers and Lexington Police, they say they can handle it.
"Spotlight Lexington and the events going on downtown are easily equated to a UK basketball game or a UK home football game," Ron Compton of Lexington Police said. "We handle those situations roughly 30 times each year, in addition to major concerts. This really is no different."
