The Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters officially kicked off their annual Firefighter Toy Program Friday morning.
The program provides toys to children of families who are having financial difficulties during the holiday season.
People who would like to donate new, unwrapped toys can deliver them to any Lexington fire station between now and December 9.
Families who want to sign up for the program can do so beginning November 7 at the toy program's headquarters on Nandino Boulevard.
Firefighters say they're bracing for an increased demand this year.
"This year, we expect the need to be much, much worse," John Durr of the Fraternal Order of Firefighters said. "We're already getting requests from people that normally helps us and do the donations. We don't know if we'll meet that need. We don't really have a plan B. We're working hand-in-hand with the Salvation Army and other charitable areas so that we can kind of work together and help everyone that does have that major need."
This is the 80th year of the Firefighter Toy Program.
