Some organizations made a very special announcement on this Veterans Day.
The Home Builders Association of Lexington and the Heather French Foundation for Veterans are teaming up to build a home for a disabled veteran in the Equestrian View Neighborhood in the East End of Lexington.
The new program is called Home Builders Care, and is organized by the Home Builders Association, the French Foundation, and the Lexington Housing Authority.
Heather French Henry, who was Miss America 2000, says she hopes this project will inspire others.
"I want people to know that you don't have to be Miss America to make a difference," Henry said. "Corporations all around Kentucky can come up with a project, whether it's providing personalized hygiene kits to hospitalized veterans, something as small as that can help really change the life of a veteran, not just providing a home, so hopefully this will encourage some other companies to get involved."
Officials hope to have a groundbreaking ceremony for the new home around Presidents Day next year.
Veterans who are interested in applying for the program should contact the Home Builders Association of Lexington. The deadline for applications is December 7.
