LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A collection of Anglican prayer books dating to 1592 will be unveiled at the University of Kentucky this week.
The Abbitt-DuPriest collection was given to the UK Special Collections by the Rev. Travis T. DuPriest, former director of the Dekoven Retreat and Conference Center in Racine, Wis., and a UK alumnus. He inherited the collection from his uncle, the Rev. Raymond Edgerton Abbitt, an Episcopal priest who served in the Philippines, St. Thomas and St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and in the Diocese of Dallas.
The university says Abbitt began in the 1930s to try to acquire at least one prayer book from the reign of each English monarch.
The collection is being dedicated at 5 p.m. EST Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Margaret I. King Building.
