Non-compliant sex offenders arrested in roundup

Many non-compliant sex offenders are now in jail thanks to a statewide roundup.

State and federal law enforcement agencies worked together to make it happen.

In a news conference in Lexington Tuesday morning, federal agents discussed the results of the roundup.

Operation Bluegrass Corral was the Fayette County portion of the sex offender compliance check.

On December 6 and 7, members of many law enforcement agencies went to the listed homes of convicted sex offenders, making sure they were still there.

Out of over 300 offenders, six were arrested for being non-compliant, and five others couldn't be found.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is still looking for 36-year-old Melissa Mae Brown, 29-year-old Antonio Luis Angel Fuentes, 42-year-old Kenneth Martin, 55-year-old Wayne Brian Wade, and 46-year-old Lane R. Weidner.

U.S. Marshal Loren Carl says sex offenders should get used to these checks.

"We might come back next week and check them again," Loren Carl of the U.S. Marshals Service said. "It's not that we've done this and we're going to quit. We're going to continue this deal. These operations are going to continue to go on and it's going to be our efforts to make sure these people are doing what they're supposed to be doing."

Investigators tell us some of the sex offenders were found living in homes with children around.
