LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials say a woman rushed to UK hospital Friday evening after being shot at a Lexington club is in critical but stable condition.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Swahili Elks Lodge on Versailles Road.
Police say a man, identified as Wendall Dixon, walked into the lodge, got into an argument with the woman, then pulled out a gun and shot her multiple times as she tried to get away from him.
Police say dozens of people witnessed the shooting.
"Witnessed the victim try to get away from the suspect, and then him start firing at her," Lexington Police Lt. Eddie Hart said. "She tried to get to the front door and he shot her several times on the way to the door, and it's our understanding he stood over her and fired two more times."
Police say after the shooting, Dixon drove off in a white Chevy Trailblazer. They say Dixon later dropped off that Trailblazer at a relative's house, giving that person the keys and saying he had been involved in something bad.
Dixon then ran off, and police are still searching for him.
Police say one other person was grazed by a bullet during the shooting.
Police say the victim and Dixon knew each other, and had a previous relationship.
