New Year's celebrations keep police busy

Police were busy New Year's Eve into New Year's Day, responding to calls of celebrations that got a little too out of hand.

Lexington police said they received multiple calls of shots fired overnight. most turned out to be fireworks. However In one case, a man on Chestnut Street was arrested for firing shots in a yard. A Lexington police officer patrolling in the area saw the man who was armed with at least two guns.

There were also several reports of disorders downtown around the bars. Most were outside in parking lots where people were loitering.

Police also said they made several arrests for public intoxication. Most of those people were given the option to catch a ride home, either by cab or with a friend. Others were taken to the jail in order to sober up.
