Hundreds of thousands of dollars in prescription drugs were stolen from a Lexington delivery company's warehouse. Owner Sam Smith says a door was pried open with a crow bar and the thieves only went for the narcotics.
"They knew what they were looking for, they went right for the crates with the prescription pills," Smith says.
Prescription drugs such as Percocet and Oxycontin were stolen just hours before they were to be delivered to Kroger pharmacies across Central Kentucky. The pharmacies went without the drugs for that day.
There is no signage at the company warehouse and Smith says all delivery companies do that for protection. Somehow though someone figured out Smith's company was delivering the prescription pills and broke in. Smith says it was likely someone that knows they deliver to pharmacies or a former delivery driver.
Smith estimates the street value of pills is well in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. "I hope we catch them, I think we will, once they do it, they'll try to come back and we'll get them."
Smith says he did not have surveillance video, but now does.
