More than 100 students received scholarships from the WYMT and Whayne Supply Mountain Basketball Classic this year. Four outstanding high school seniors were awarded the Ralph Gabbard Broadcast Scholarship.

Kenny Craft is from Knott County Central High School. He participated in everything from football to the speech and debate team and is certainly a distinguished student.

Kenny was very thrilled when he got the news he had won the scholarship!

"I got a WYMT letter and I was like, 'Uh-oh, I wonder if they are going to deny me or they are going to accept me?' So, I opened it up and it said 'Congratulations!' And I was like, 'Yes! I got something!'"

Kenny says receiving the Ralph Gabbard Scholarship comes after years of hard work in the classroom.

"I found out at a real young age that in order for me to make something of myself, that nothing was going to be handed to me, that I actually have to go out and do it," Craft says.

And he certainly has--Kenny took a liking to video shooting and editing in 8th grade. His interest and dedication led school officials to develop a high school media program.

"After they created that class we had a lot more people join in, and it's just been something that's really been a good thing for Knott Central," he says.

Kenny will attend the University of Kentucky in the fall and wants to study communications.

"I know that with my life, i just want to talk to people. that's all i want to do," he says.

And he is excited about the move to Lexington.

"I'm all about trying new things. I really can't wait just to go on with that next chapter in my life."

Kenny says he also has a love for business, and thinks he may pursue public relations. No matter what he is doing 10 years down the road, he says he wants to be in position where he can help people.

"I can't wait to give back--to what people have already helped me with, because, in no way shape or form would I be today, if i hadn't had all these people that have helped me along the way," Kenny says.

Congratulations to Kenny! He is one of four 2010 Ralph Gabbard Scholarship winners.
