Lexington's first half marathon to benifit local charity

Fasig-Tipton Company, Inc., in conjunction with Reinke Sports Group, will host Lexington’s first USRA Half-Marathon series on Sunday, March 28, 2010. The Fasig-Tipton 5K and Fun Run/Walk will also be held following the start of the half-marathon. Blue Grass Farms Charity has been named the official charity and will receive a portion of the proceeds from the race. Runners and walkers are also encouraged to seek pledges for the charity. Proceeds will go towards their annual summer camp for low-income children of farm workers. One-hundred percent of all pledges will benefit the charity.

John Sensenig, owner of John’s run/Walk Shop in Lexington states “The half-marathon has become a very popular distance for runners and walkers and this is an absolutely unique course for the participants. Fasig-Tipton has been beautifully rebuilt and the run features plank fences, rock walls and rolling bluegrass farms, as well as a stunning tour of the recently updated Kentucky Horse Park.”

Food, drinks, live entertainment and an awards ceremony will take place at the finish line at Fasig-Tipton. Participants of all fitness levels are welcome to join the more than 1600 participants that have already registered. Volunteers are also needed. All participants and volunteers will receive a goody bag and admission to the post-race festivities.

Runners and walkers can sign up each of the races at www.lexingtonhalfmarathon.com.
