We're now less than 200 days before the World Equestrian Games begin, and preparations are still going on at the Kentucky Horse Park. One of the most important events of the games will be the opening ceremonies. Today, one of the major highlights of those ceremonies was announced, it's a performance that is full of strong Kentucky connections.
Wynonna Judd will be the featured act of the opening ceremonies. She'll perform "My Old Kentucky Home." Judd is a native Kentuckian.
The opening ceremonies will last over two hours and will feature more than 200 horses as well as a symphony orchestra.
The people in charge of putting the ceremonies together say Wynonna was one of their first choices when they began their planning.
"We knew we needed acts that could tie together horse and people and she was right at the top of our list," said Julie Klier, who is one of the producers of the opening ceremony.
The games will run from September 25 through October 10. They will be the biggest sporting event in America this year.
