The sounds of Ireland filled the streets of downtown Lexington Saturday. Hundreds of people turned out for the annual Irish festival and parade.
The day began with a 3K run called the "Shamrock Shuffle." Events continued throughout the day with numerous vendors, musical performances, and a parade down Main Street.
The festival took place on the block occupied by the proposed CentrePointe project. After numerous setbacks related to a proposed high rise for the site, the developers ultimately planted grass and fenced the block. Many of those in attendance at Saturday's festival said they thought it was a good use of the space and hope for more events like this in the vacant block.
