An assistant University of Kentucky basketball coach finds himself in trouble with the law after being arrested for DUI.
Lexington Police arrested Rodney Strickland at New Circle and Tates Creek Roads just before 3:00am Sunday. Court documents show police reportedly observed Strickland run a red light. The arrest citation says Strickland nearly struck another vehicle and smelled of alcohol. The arresting officer says Strickland failed a field sobriety test, claiming he was unsteady on his feet, could not stand on one leg, could not walk and turn and could not complete the ABC and 123 test. The citation says Strickland refused the intoxilizer test at the scene.
Police charged Strickland with Disregarding a Traffic Control Device, Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to maintain Required Insurance and Improper Registration Plate.
He posted a $2,640 bond and is due in court April 15 on the charges.
UK Athletics issued a statement late Monday morning saying: "This is a legal matter and we are still gathering information about the alleged incident. We take such allegations seriously and will handle appropriately once the facts are known."
