Investigation into incident at pool ends

Lexington Parks and Recreation officials say the investigation into an incident at a pool, in which a woman ended up losing part of her scalp, has ended.

Heather Kinney says she had to receive more than two dozen stitches after last week's accident, which happened at the Southland Aquatic Center.

We're told Kinney was inside the pool, leaning toward her child, when she slipped, and hit the edge of the slide tunnel.

Lexington Parks and Recreation officials investigated, but they say they found the equipment in question to be safe.

"This equipment has been open since 1997, and we've never had an incident like this," Brian Rogers, of Lexington Parks and Recreation said.

Investigators say they looked for sharp fixtures, but didn't find any.

Parks and Recreation officials also say there was no damage to the equipment as a result of the accident.

The Southland Aquatic Center remains on its normal operating schedule. But Tuesday, the lap area, diving well, and large slide will be on a different schedule, because of a swim meet.
