It's being described as a disturbing sight.
Investigators say they found a handicapped adult and a child living in a Lexington home with filthy conditions.
Now, they're trying to figure out why.
Lexington Police say Wednesday afternoon, they found a 4-year-old girl and a 21-year-old mentally challenged woman living in terrible conditions at a home on Rocky Hill Terrace.
That's in the Lansdowne area.
Police say there was virtually no food in the home, and the two were surrounded by trash and feces.
Both the child and the adult were taken to a hospital, but their conditions are not known.
State and local officials are now investigating.
The Division of Code Enforcement has condemned the property.
Police say one person has been arrested and taken to jail for endangering the welfare of a minor.
