Countdown to World Equestrian Games reaches 100 days

In just 100 days, people from all over the world will converge on Lexington for the World Equestrian Games.

The city of Lexington is marking that milestone with a big celebration downtown.

The party is taking place Thursday at the Pavilion at Cheapside Park.

Through Thursday evening, people at that pavilion can enjoy food, music, and other entertainment.

Some horses from the Kentucky Horse Park are on hand, and a penguin and an alligator were brought in from the Newport Aquarium.

There's still some work to be done in town before the games begin September 25.

"We've been planning for many years now," World Equestrian Games COO Rob Hinkle said. "And finally, we're going to be putting the seating in soon, and doing more work."

Seats began arriving for temporary structures at the Kentucky Horse Park Thursday.

Hundreds of journalists are now in Lexington from the American Horse Publication.

Their annual convention is here this week. They were on hand Thursday morning as officials gave an update on construction for the games.
