He woke up to investigate a noise and ended up finding an intruder.
That break-in happened on Republic Ct. off of Liberty Rd. overnight.
But the burglar and his lookout left empty handed, after the homeowner fired multiple shots at the people who invaded his home.
People living here on Republic Ct. say it's always a quiet neighborhood. But early Wednesday morning, someone broke in the front door of this home, forcing his way inside.
The homeowner acted quickly to put an end to the invasion.
It was an alarming way to wake up.
"He was home when he heard his front door being kicked in," says Lt. Melissa Sedlaczek, with Lexington Police.
Then the homeowner got out of bed to see what was going on, and he made sure to be prepared.
"He got his weapon, came into the hallway, when he turned on the light he saw the subject standing in the hallway, and so he did fire a few shots towards the direction of the suspect," Sedlaczek says.
None of the three shots hit the intruder, but they did go through the walls of the home, and one even hit the side of the next door neighbor's house.
After being fired at, the suspect ran outside. The homeowner looked out the front door and saw another man running away with him.
Neighbors say the gun shots did not wake them up, but the commotion afterwards did.
"I stepped outside and they were at the neighbors house and walking up and down the road, and I saw the K-9 dog, so I was like, hm, strange," says Barry Thompson, a neighbor.
Thompson says he's lived on Republic Ct. for four years, and something like this was a first.
"It's never happened. I was shocked, because it's always quiet," he says.
Although the one man did get inside the house, he did not get away with any of the homeowner's belongings before running off.
