The search is on for an escapee from Laurel County, and she's not just any escapee. Lexington Police say 21-year-old Brittany Yaden is pregnant.
Late this afternoon Lexington Police got the call that a Laurel County inmate had escaped from the hospital. That inmate was 21-year-old Brittany Yaden.
"She had come up to St. Joseph East Hospital for some medical treatment. She is at this point 11 weeks pregnant," says Sherelle Roberts with the Lexington Police Department.
Jail officials say Yaden was allowed to go to St. Joseph Hospital in London, who then sent her to Lexington. They say jail officials were going to pick her up after being discharged, however police say she escaped after telling medical officials she was going for a smoke break.
"She made it down to the parking lot of the hospital and there was a maroon van that was actually waiting for her in the parking lot. She got in and they sped off heading toward I-75, according to witnesses," says Sherelle Roberts.
Jail Officials say Yaden has been in and out of the Laurel County Jail at least six times in the last two years. In 2009 they say she was charged with controlled substance endangerment to a child for a meth lab found in the home in Lily where she, six adults, and two children were staying.
Most recently officials say she violated her probation for other charges and was re-arrested on July 5th. They say since then she has also been charged with promoting contraband within the jail.
Now authorities are searching for her again after escaping from the Hospital.
Jail officials say, when caught, Brittany Yaden will now face an escape charge. They say she also had medical equipment with her when she escaped and could face a charge for that.
